Our Story

The Inner Circle was created from a simple but powerful need for improved literacy and community connection in a fast-moving city. What began as small gatherings centered around conversation and shared experiences quickly grew into a space to build real relationships, and give back.

Now a nonprofit community, The Inner Circle brings communities together through book clubs, curated events, and volunteer initiatives, while partnering with local businesses to create experiences that uplift the city we call home.

Inspiring enrichment and connection

Inner Circle Literary Society is passionate about the transformative power of literacy, culture, and community. Roughly 69% of students attending Chicago Public Schools are not reading at grade level. Through our initiatives we create opportunities to close equity gaps and get women and children excited about literacy. Our mission is to inspire lifelong learning, strengthen community bonds, and cultivate a spirit of philanthropy.
